DESIRE MAPS is an interactive map making performance in which audience members are invited to reimagine the geographical journeys of their ancestors.
A collaboration between PROJEKT EUROPA’s artistic director Maria Aberg and visual artist and video designer Akhila Krishnan, DESIRE MAPS is a participatory performance looking at migration, climate crisis and the intersection between personal history and global events.
Combining live projected illustration, video design, headphones and audience participation, this performance creates an invitation for audience members to redraw the journeys of their ancestors, step into their shoes and imagine a moment of choice – this way or that? If they could have taken a different route, where would they have gone? And where might they have ended up?
DESIRE MAPS will premiere as part of the TalentLAB Festival at Les Théâtres de la Ville du Luxembourg on May 31st 2026. The project is a co-production between PROJEKT EUROPA and TDLV, supported by Farnham Maltings and the Centre for Performance, Technology, and Equity at CSSD.
The initial development phase of this project was supported by the National Theatre’s Generate Programme. Subsequent development was supported by Brighton Festival and supported by Farnham Maltings and Goldsmith’s University.
